Carrara

The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.

Petrography

White-grey marble with a grain size of 0.5 mm. Embellishments of graphite enhance the entire stone in the form of grey veins, marks and clouds. Because of its homogeneity and crystalline structure, this particular natural stone is ideally suitable for polishing. Small, crater-shaped pores (Tarolli), open gas bubbles, are possible on the polished surface, which criss-cross the whole stone structure. Also fine fault cracks characterise the appearance. Marble types of different brightness grades and structure are quarried in the Apuan Mountains in over 1,000 quarries around Carrara.

Petrogenesis

Carrara marble was created through metamorphosis of limestone with inclusions of organic components (animal and vegetable remains). As a result of tectonic earth crust activities, the limestone massif reached greater depths and, under the influence of pressure and temperature, crystallised to marble in the course of millions of years.
