The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.
Petrography
The limestone shows a dark gray shade because of bituminous enclosures.
Former cavities are filled with pure white crystalline calcite.
Petrogenesis
Dark, sometimes also black limestones originate from sediments of calcareous ooze on the sea ground. In case there is only little water exchange, dead organisms cannot be completely decomposed under anaerobic conditions. Thus, dark, bituminous substances are generated. Later tectonic tensions in the rock lead to ruptures which later on were filled by pure white calcite crystals.
