Persian Nero

The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.

Petrography

The rock consists mainly of bituminous calcite.

Petrogenesis

Like all marine limestones, completely black limestones (so-called sapropel limestones or sludge limestones) are formed when very fine lime particles are deposited on the sea floor. If the water was very poor in oxygen, the organic components of dead organisms were not able to decompose completely, as is usually the case, but remained as a black, bituminous substance. The white calcite veins mark (healed) cracks caused by stresses within the earth's crust.
