Port Laurent Marone
The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.
Petrography
Brownish black bituminous limestone with limonite inclusions. White veins of crystalline calcite are spread through the attractive rock.
Petrogenesis
Limestone of this type was generated by deposits of lime sludge on the sea bed. Organisms participated in lime precipitation in most cases. However, no fossil relicts are visible any more. The rock has been fractured by tectonic forces after compacting of the lime sediment. Afterwards the cracks were filled by crystalline calcite. They give a lively decoration without affecting the strength.
